The Marine Corps is a "Band of Brothers", and the 1st Marine Division Association represents the best of what our Corps stands for - An Association where Marines and Sailors, who now serve or have served, come together as a "Family of Warriors" and share that unexplained quality that makes us stand apart, known as "Esprit de Corps".
The 1st Marine Division Association was created in 1947 to foster, encourage, and perpetuate the memory and spirit of comradeship-in-arms of all veterans who have campaigned under the battle colors of the 1st Marine Division. All Active Duty, Reserve, and Honorably Discharged Veterans who have served with the 1st Marine Division are eligible for membership in the Association. The Association, and it's affiliated Chapters, is a non-profit, 501(c)(19) veteran's services organization. The San Antonio Alamo Chapter of the Association was chartered in 1988 and supports the Association's efforts in the Greater San Antonio area to (1) foster, encourage, and perpetuate the memory and spirit of comradeship-in-arms; (2) preserve the history, incidents, and memories of the 1st Marine Division; (3) promote and safeguard the principles of justice, freedom, democracy, and patriotism; (4) perpetuate the spirit and traditions of the U. S. Marine Corps; (5) promote and cultivate social interaction and fellowship among the members; and (6) hold meetings and social gatherings to carry out these stated purposes. The Alamo Chapter actively supports several educational scholarship programs. Among these are the First Marine Division Association Scholarship Fund, The San Antonio Young Marines, and the Alamo Detachment 315, San Antonio Marine Corps League Scholarship program.
